A Poppy celebration

I am back not with a freebie this time but with an attempt at a card.
You may laugh at my rather pathetic attempt, I have thick skin LOL
This card has been created for Brenda's 4th Bloggaversary and in celebration of almost 4000 followers.
Here is me getting excited at reaching 8 ROFL.
We were to create something based on our take of Brenda's blog.
It was a no brainer for me to use the header as inspiration. Particularly the Poppies.
When I was younger my mother left my father and we moved to live with my Nan and Grandad.
They lived in a small place called Tidworth and the one thing I always remember are the Poppy fields.
On the way to school we had to pass several of them and they were absolutely beautiful in full flower.
My attempt at them have been made using tissue paper.
Not to shabby if I do say so myself even though it took me over four hours to complete the card LOL
Beads in the center. Grass and sky courtesy of my art student son who kindly lent me his pastels.
I have added 3 paper buttons down the side as my Nan was also an avid button collector.
Made the bows myself using some red 3mm ribbon. Talk about tricky.
Checkered paper is a magazine freebie. Used a stencil for the shape :)
Sadly my grandparents are no longer alive but creating this card has bought back some wonderful memories.
Thank you Brenda *smiles*
Your blog for me has got to epitomise (sp?) one thing and that is Happy Memories.
I can't wait to browse your site more indepth and feel I may become a stalker ;)

  1. Don't be so hard on yourself because your card is glorious.

My memories of poppies also goes back to childhood, living in a very rural location they grew freely and I can remember so many times at a very early age picking a bunch and never understanding why they never survived the night in water. My other fond memory is of cowslips and still have a soft spot for them and now have them growing on our own paddocks.

Anyhow, as you can tell I could talk for England and I really came to say what a beautiful card you have created. The poppies look so realistic and I think the use of tissue paper works perfectly as it gives them that almost transparent feel that we all associate with them.

Thank you so much for making such a special card to join in my blog celebration and also for your kind words which are much appreciated.

Look forward to meeting you again in blogland......although I'm afraid I don't know your name ?

  2. You've created a very pretty card. The first few times are always the hardest and we always berate ourselves. We shouldn't do that! It's part of the creative learning process and there is always someone who appreciates our work. The colors on this are bright, cheery and inviting. Smile and enjoy your creation. It's hand made and beats store bought every time!
